A.H.E.S. ADVOCACY
My name is Diana F lores, Legislative Vice-President for A.H.E.S. I am the liaison between OUSD Legislative Coalition (Legco) and AHES’ PTA. My main responsibility is to keep our PTA informed about important education issues discussed at the district level, i.e. proposals for new legislation or updates to current educational laws, and to bring back to the district any comments and/or recommendations expressed by our PTA.
Local PTAs may recommend action on current or upcoming legislation to the California State PTA Board of Managers. This organization, in turn, is responsible for taking action and bringing up the legislative ladder relevant local issues originating in school districts, cities, regions, or counties.
Laws enacted by local, state and national bodies are primary sources of public policy. Securing adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth is one of most important purposes of PTA organizations. Therefore, A.H.E.S. PTA may and should participate actively in the process through which public policy decisions are made.
