Scholastic Reading Counts

 

Scholastic Reading Counts (SRC) is an incentive program that checks comprehension and gets kids reading. All your child has to do is read a book with an SRC quiz, take the quiz at school and earn points and prizes! The AHES library is filled with books that have SRC quizzes. If you have questions about a book in the AHES library, you can go to the OUSD website www.orangeusd.k12.ca.us and click on STUDENTS, then click on DESTINY ONLINE CATALOG. Next, click on ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS and choose ANAHEIM HILLS ELEMENTARY. Then you click on the CATALOG tab and enter the name of the book or the Author's name. If you have a question about a book that is not in our library, you can go to to AHESPTA.com and click on the READING COUNTS link in "QUICK LINKS" at the bottom of the right side column, this will take you to a Scholastic search engine src.scholastic.com. Just enter the title of your book, if your book appears in the search results, there is an SRC quiz for your book. On both websites you will find the points for the book, the Reading Level, the Lexile level along with other valuable information. Reading Counts is only for students in grades 2 through 6. Your child may take quizzes during their computer lab time, library time, at recess, and in the classroom. Additional time to take quizzes is offered only on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 to 8:00 and Wednesday afternoon from 12:20 to 12:45.

10 Points: Reading Counts Book Mark
20 Points: Reading Counts Pencil
30 Points: Lanyard + 30 Points Medal
50 Points: 50 Points Medal
100 Points: 100 Point Medal
200 Points: 200 Point Medal
350 Points: 350 Point Medal + a trip to Principal’s Treasure Chest
500 Points: Bronze – 500 Point Medal + 5 Merit Tickets
750 Points: Silver – 750 Point Medal + 2 Gift Certificates for free game of bowling
1000 Points: Gold – 1000 Point Medal + $5.00 Barnes & Noble Gift Card + name on plaque in the library
1500 Points: 1500 point medal + $5.00 Barnes & Noble Gift Card + 5 Merit Tickets
2000 Points: 2000 point medal + $10.00 Barnes & Noble Gift Card
2500 Points: 2500 point medal + $10.00 Barnes & Noble Gift Card + Name on plaques in the library
